Dear all,

I would like to share some news about Judaica Librarianship, AJL’s
peer-reviewed journal. As announced during the AJL 2024 annual conference in
San Diego, we are concurrently working on two distinct issues of JL. One issue
is focused on Judaica collections in Canada and is guest-edited by Nadav Sharon
(University of Toronto Libraries) and Hannah Srour-Zackon (Congregation Shaar
Hashomayim). For the other issue, I am now posting a new call for papers while
also editing a few articles that are in the pipeline. Those of you who had
approached me regarding possible contributions, please get in touch to continue
those conversations or go to

Call for Papers
Judaica Librarianship, the Association of Jewish Libraries’ peer-reviewed open
access journal, is now accepting new submissions. The journal provides a forum
for scholarship on the theory and practice of Jewish studies librarianship and
information studies. JL seeks to publish research articles and essays related
to the development and management of Judaica collections in all types of
libraries and archives, the initiation and coordination of digital curation
projects, the creation and dissemination of information resources in all
formats, and the promotion of Jewish information literacy.

The editorial board welcomes submissions based on papers presented at AJL
annual conferences or other meetings in related disciplines, materials related
to work in AJL’s Schools, Synagogues, Centers, and Public Libraries (SSCPL)
Division, submissions about disability and the Jewish library, crisis and
Jewish libraries, and Jewish book culture in its broadest sense. All
submissions are reviewed by the editor and may be edited in preparation for
publication. Research articles go through anonymous author/ anonymous reviewer
peer-review process in accordance with the ethical guidelines for peer
reviewers of Committee on Publication
Ethics<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://publicationethics.org/__;!!KGKeukY!3LWwSU2zOmJRG-ZCiCh4-XiTDAlEz3bRXvcZdJNPBBIhM7KBpTIuL-fLLaDB4EAqLN9eo17LRNqafntgg9kbzSqPAa-GMnw$
 >.

Topics covered in Judaica Librarianship include

linguistics, information technology, or social history).
  * Best practices and policies for Jewish libraries and archives of all
kinds: school libraries (all levels); community center libraries; public
libraries; Judaica collections in religious institutions; archival collections;
museum and historical society libraries; research libraries; and special
libraries.
  * Innovative approaches to data curation, discovery tools, or preservation
of library materials in the digital age.
  * Descriptive essays and surveys of noteworthy collections.
  * Historical or bibliographical studies pertaining to Hebraica and/or
Judaica materials, libraries, and librarians.
  * History of the Jewish book and Jewish publishing.
  * Digital humanities projects relevant to Jewish studies and other
digitization projects.
  * Library services for users, including but not limited to reference tools
and instruction guidelines for teaching Jewish literacy, cultural programming,
or any other outreach programs.
  * Collaborative collection development initiatives across library networks.

Judaica Librarianship is graciously supported by the Manfred Gottschalk Judaica
Librarianship Endowment.

Thank you,
Rachel
