> http://www-users.cs.york.ac.uk/~ndm/temp/filepath.png For what it's worth, the FSF's coding conventions uses "path" only for lists of directories (typically used for a search, e.g. MANPATH, PATH, LD_LIBRARY_PATH, load-path, ...), not for file names. In their convention, "/foo/bar/baz" is a file name, where "bar" is a file name element IIRC.
