A quick web search for "Mac OS X gcc binary" turned up
http://hpc.sourceforge.net/index.php
with binary releases of GCC 4.6 for Lion and Snow Leopard.

This requires "Developer Tools", but that isn't XCode, and it's
on the OS X DVD.
