Long term I would like to see GLUT get replaced by the much nicer GLFW-b library. In the near term, this version of GLUT has some bugs and while I hate to see it used again, I'm also unavailable to fix it before the HP release. If you would like to make this patch and upload it to hackage as 2.1.2.2, then as the GLUT maintainer I would be okay with that.
