I agree.  But the Wiki is an excellent place to specify alternative
designs, and summarise their advantages and disadvantages.  Otherwise
alternative designs can get lost in the twists and turns of a long
thread. 

So: discuss by email, record outcomes and articulate alternative design
choices on the Wiki
