[I apologise for polluting the Haskell list with non-technical discussion,
but I hope that we might get some good FP applications for these posts.

As our head of division notes, Computer Science is expanding at St Andrews,
and we are looking for good people to join the division. It would be great
to have more functional programmers here (though the advert is non-specific,
and applications in other areas of expertise are welcome, of course).

The division is small, but lively, and St Andrews offers an excellent
environment in which to live and work (for those who like the excitement
of the big city, Edinburgh is about 1 hour's drive away and Glasgow is
slightly further, the Scottish highlands are also within easy reach).
We have good computing facilities for the size of the
department and have just received funding for a 64-processor Beowulf
class multiprocessor for distributed and parallel systems research.

Please pass this on to anyone who you think might be a good candidate.

Best Wishes,
Kevin]

ACADEMIC POSTS in COMPUTER SCIENCE

As part of a major development strategy for Computer Science in St Andrews,
applications are invited for two or more academic posts, possibly at senior
level. Candidates should have a PhD in Computer Science or equivalent and
demonstrate exceptional research potential and teaching ability.

In addition to a full teaching programme there is substantial research
activity funded by EPSRC, Esprit and industry. The Department has a
Research Selectivity Rating of 4 with major strengths in Computational
Logic, Symbolic Computation, and Experimental Computer Science (distributed
systems, databases, programming languages). Outstanding candidates are
sought to strengthen or complement these areas.

The Department currently has 3 professors, 1 senior lecturer, 5 lecturers,
and 9 post-doctoral fellows and provides a stimulating environment for
research and teaching. Divisional resources include extensive computing
facilities of over 250 workstations and personal computers with multimedia
capabilities and specialized networks and devices. Additional high
performance computing platforms are also available.

Those selected for interview will be invited to visit the Department before
the interviews and details of undergraduate teaching and research work can
be discussed more fully at that time.

The salary will on the appropriate point on the Academic pay scale,
currently ?16655 to ?34464 per annum.
