Associate Professorships and Assistant Research
Professorships within the Internet Technology Programme
at the IT University of Copenhagen. Deadline: 31 August 2000.

Applications are invited for three associate professorships and
assistant research professorships within the Internet Technology
Programme at the IT University of Copenhagen. The positions are to be
filled as soon as possible.

The IT University of Copenhagen was founded in April 1999 by the
Danish Government. 150 students were admitted in August 1999, another
150 in February 2000 and stands to accept 800 students a year within
five years.  Education at the PhD level and Master's level is offered
in the following fields: Design, Communication and Media, Software
Development, Internet Technology, Multimedia Technology, E-Commerce
and Cross-disciplinary IT.

The IT University offers degree programmes at the levels of PhD,
Master and Diploma. Currently, emphasis is on establishing the Master
and PhD programmes, but the IT University plans to extend its teaching
activities to cover distance learning and continued education.

The Internet Technology programme is a graduate programme in computer
science and software technology. Students admitted for the graduate
studies hold a Bachelor's degree; most often, it is a BSc. Courses
currently offered cover areas such as Internet Programming, Database
Systems, Networks and Protocols, Data Security, Algorithms and Data
Structures, Parallel Systems, and Embedded Systems.

More generally, research in Internet Technology at the IT University
currently centers around: verification and test of reactive systems,
theory of concurrent systems, and embedded systems. The IT University
wants to extend the research to other areas relating to the Internet
including issues of mobility, security, correctness, and efficiency of
software. The applicant is supposed to contribute actively to the
shaping of the research profile in the area, jointly with the faculty
already employed.

Applications within one of the following subject areas are invited: 

     Data Security. The theory and pragmatics of data security. The
     successful applicant could hold a PhD degree or equivalent
     qualifications in cryptography but should also have an interest in
     teaching pragmatic aspects of security. 

     Databases. The theory and pragmatics of database systems.
     Research could be within a specialized area but teaching will be mainly
     on general database systems. 

     Other Internet Technologies. Including but not limited to algorithmic
     and networking aspects of Internet services, Internet-oriented
     programming languages and techniques, theory and pragmatics of
     parallel, distributed and mobile systems. 

     Embedded Systems. (This position is limited to a two year assistant
     research professorship; it is funded by the research project RCES.

     www.dina.kvl.dk/~sestoft/rces.) Technologies for embedded systems:
     Real-time and other resource considerations, models, theory, test
     generation, and code generation. 

Each of the positions will be filled with an associate or assistant
research professor, depending on the qualifications of the
applicant. The applicant should in the application indicate whether an
associate or an assistant research professorship, is applied for. It
might be decided to fill more positions in some areas and none in
other areas.

The associate professorships are tenured positions with research and
teaching obligations. Applicants for the associate professor positions
must hold a relevant PhD degree or equivalent qualifications and must
have a first-rate, international publication record in one of the
previously listed fields. The applicant must be able to participate in
the planning and execution of research projects and must be able to
supervise PhD and Master students.  Finally, good administrative
skills and an interest in building a new organisation are required.

The assistant research professorships are temporary positions for 5
years.  Applicants must hold a relevant PhD degree or equivalent
qualifications.  Applicants are expected to contribute primarily to
the planning and execution of research and teaching, exhibiting both
personal initiative and the ability to achieve results with
colleagues.

whether an associate or an assistant research professorship is applied
for, documentation for degrees, a brief CV, a list of publications, 5
selected publications, and documentation for teaching experience.

Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of
Finance's Agreement with the Central Academic Organisation with the
possibility of negotiating allowances on the basis of
qualifications. The monthly basic level of salary is in the range
24.100 - 26.100 DKR plus 16,6% pension for the assistant research
professorships and 26.200 - 28.200 DKR plus 16,6% pension for the
associate professorships.
