No, I haven't been in contact with Matthias or anyone else from Fink. I'd be happy to help them with any problems that they have.
Like darwinports, fink seems to be experiencing growing pains right now. (DP is struggling with binary packages and whether to support non-Apple platforms; Fink has trouble adequately supporting both a stable and an unstable branch.)
