That's why I said "And it has identical tags".

I mean the user and group ID tags in the sublist are unique, and that in a 
situation where the tags in the main list were unique would also be a case 
where you'd have to be prepared for people putting stuff in different orders.

Don't know. For this situation I'd rather see something like a simple
query language. I wrote one for parsing files once that used examples
with embedded names, like "tag=value+". Worked well for grovelling
though syslog files, but nobody else at the site ever used it so I let
it rot.

Today's software hate is my Nokia phone.
