I get that. I stick a "zzz" at the front, so it doesn't match, edit it, then remove the zzz. On the Mac if I'm doing a bunch of renames I use Applescript. It's a bastard of a language, kind of like what Grace Hooper might have thought a good idea if she was doing COBOL over a few decades later, but it *does* give you a working script and you can use "osascript" to run it from the shell.
