In principle, I would even agree with them, if it wasn't for the
fact that  a) most GUI app developers never see those messages
(I'm certainly guilty) and  b) there's no facility to filter the
spew à la syslog.

I've never developed a GUI app in my life and those messages annoy the
crap out of me because they're completely irrelevant to my user
experience. They would still annoy the crap out of me, even if I
wasn't a programmer at all. Isn't that justification enough for nuking
them from orbit with extreme prejudice? Hate.
