Well, it’s a 1.5-only feature. It seems the release/devel
distinction is kinda pointless anymore – I don’t know that
there’ll be a 1.6 at this rate, and at the same time, 1.4 is
seriously ancient, dating back to 2002 (with only a handful of
incremental fixes since).

I guess that’s the one really hateful thing about mutt: how the
project is managed.
