Isn't this more or less the premise of Sun's Java Web Start? Has anyone
actually seen a JWS app in the wild (apart from Sun's download manager)?

ObHate: Gentoo's "sandbox" utility, which is a fiendishly clever little
item which when broken (in a horribly nonspecific way) requires a
rebuild of the kernel, gcc and glibc (thus far) to fix. Hate.
