Yes, MITM is difficult. Especially compared to the ease of sniffing
unencrypted packets at J Random Internet cafe which any idiot with tcpdump or
Wireshark can do.
This is why I SOCKS tunnel chat protocols. Get my packets safely out of the
LAN and onto the relatively secure Internet.
And now I will hate that there's not ubiquitous IPSec. Even those picking up
IPv6 tend to ignore that part of the protocol.
