You're on the wrong list for that. ;-)

The default tone I assume for anything posted on this list is
snark, and I write that way here as well. (The opposite from
everywhere else on both points.) I'm probably not the only one.
It's what the list is for after all. So if you don't explicitly
mark honest questions as such they'll seem like sarcasm and get
answered that way. Instead of <sarcasm> tags you need <curious>
tags on this list.

As for your actual questions, Peter answered them pretty much.

For nitpick's sake I should note that the focus model I prefer
is actually called sloppy focus; the difference is that while
both models focus a window when you move the pointer into it,
strict FFM also unfocuses the window when you move the pointer
out of it. So in strict FFM, when the pointer is over the root
window, no window has focus, whereas with sloppy focus the last
focused window keeps focus.
