Nickolai:
On top of Andrew's questions/suggestions, it seems like you are running an old version of TRUNK? HBASE-780,
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-780, which went in over a week ago, looks like it might be a fix for your scan meta issue.

Hello Nickolai,
Are you seeing the log4j errors all of the time? Perhaps
there is an issue with your installation.

It seems I have a problem with log4j - or is it
normal? the log4j
properties file is in conf directory (I checked)
log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger
(org.apache.hadoop.conf.Configuration).
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.
I still send you the log file because there seems to be
something else:
" scan '.META.' " throws exception saying
'.META.' is not a valid table name: I had copy-pasted
the line from hbase help.
That's also odd... because it should work.
Did you copy files from a build directory over an existing
installation, or did you make a new installation?
Thanks,
- Andy
