Yes.  We recommend against your using compression because it is little 
tested and seems to have adverse effect on memory usage.  There are also 
issues with bloom filters in operation that need fixing (HBASE-1047 and 
HBASE-1039).  Neither, it looks like, will be addressed in time for the 
0.19.0 release.
