Thanks Andy - of course I was populating the region being scanned from another process...
Is this something I need to programatically handle? Or if I increased the timeout, would the scanner block while the split occurred, and then continue gracefully with the rest of the scan? - sorry, I have not had time to really get into HBase code to look for myself...
