All,

We cut a branch for 0.3 about 6 weeks ago, though we never got around to
releasing it. In the time since then we have been adding features that I
believe would be useful to get out quickly[1]. Rather than release a 0.3 and
turn around and immediately release 0.4, I propose we instead branch for 0.4 in
the next few days and spend our effort stabilizing it, with the goal of
releasing it within a month or so.

There are still several patches that need to go in before we could branch:
239, 243, 257, 261, 264. Note one significant backward incompatibility for
this release is the switch from storage drivers to SerDes for doing data
translation.

Thoughts?

Alan.

[1] Namely, the switch to SerDes and to Hive's authorization interface. Both of
these make it easier to use Hive together with HCatalog.
