Hi, On http://wiki.hcoop.net/MemberManual/Email#SendingMail, it seems that we are discouraged from using the HCoop SMTP server to send outgoing mail (to mailboxes that HCoop doesn't host). I have recently found out about SPF records http://www.openspf.org/ so:
- To keep emails from being labeled as spam, wouldn't it make sense to encourage the use of the SMTP server, and use the SPF record for hcoop.net? (I think it being used, but I'm unsure exactly what it means, as in my next questions) - I've used http://www.kitterman.com/spf/validate.html to look at the SPF record for hcoop, and it returns: v=spf1 mx ~all >From my understanding, this allows email from the server specified in the mx record for hcoop.net (which is mail.hcoop.net from my checking), and causes a SoftFail for others. This seems to contradict the fact that we are discouraged from using the HCoop SMTP server, as other email sent from other servers would be 'softly' labeled as spam. Is this right or am I confused? It just seems to me that following the recommendation on http://wiki.hcoop.net/MemberManual/Email#SendingMail would result in emails being marked as spam...
