I'm not planning to take any action on this unless there is strong consensus to the contrary. (There would still be some coding and testing left to translate your advice into an actual working system, since orchestrating statistics generation for hundreds of virtual hosts configured by different people is beyond the scope of any tools packaged with Webalizer.) Getting our new servers set up seems a stronger priority, and there we will be running Webalizer in Debian stable, with a version that we know works as expected with our tools. Perhaps your advice will be useful if we end up running Webalizer again in testing or unstable.
