Hi Estrid,

Family structure has not been taken into account for the R468 rfMRI 
connectivity or R440 structural datasets. That is why we were sure to label 
them with the R, so that users would be reminded that these groups do contain 
some twin pairs and siblings that may share some features. As the number of 
subjects used in the group analyses increases (e.g within a group of ~450), the 
effects of having several family groups of 2-3 related individuals become 
smaller on the group as an average. That being said, we haven't provided an 
unrelated connectivity and structural dataset for U100 mainly because of the 
extra effort it would take in the face of the many other HCP priorities.

Many thanks for this! I'm not sure how I missed it... 
I do have one additional question: Why is the 100-unrelated group average only 
available for the task fMRI data? Won't any effects of relatedness be equally 
relevant for resting-state and structural data, or has family structure already 
been taken into account in the analyses of the R468 connectivity and R440 
structural datasets?

Where can I find documentation regarding the methods used to create the 
extensively processed 100 and 400+-subject group-average functional MR data 
from the 500 subjects data release? The release notes file included in the 
download (ReleaseNotes_HCP_Q1-Q6_GroupAvg_Related440_Unrelated100_v1.txt) 
points to the data reference manual and two papers describing data acquisition 
etc, but I cannot seem to find any detailed information on specifically these 
group average datasets. I'm particularly interested in how the averaging was 
done for the 440-subject task activation maps, and the 468 group-PCA eigenmaps.
