The Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Unit of the McConnell Brain Imaging Centre (BIC) at the Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI, McGill University) is looking to fill the position of a full‐time Research Assistant. We are seeking to hire a PET specialist to make a difference in an outstanding scientific environment, at the crossroads between cellular and molecular biology, radiochemistry, brain imaging physics, biophysical modelling and neuroscience. The McConnell BIC’s PET Unit has established many firsts in PET science: It features 3 PET scanners (one standard resolution Siemens HR+, one high‐resolution research tomograph Siemens HRRT, and one microPET camera). It also benefits from the immediate proximity of an on‐site, research‐dedicated cyclotron and radiochemistry Unit to synthesize a large variety of radiopharmaceuticals. The successful candidate will become a key core staff member of the McConnell BIC. The Centre is a multidisciplinary hub for a broad community of basic science and clinical investigators and trainees, long recognized as an international leader in neuroimaging domains and analytical techniques. It is one of the largest academic brain imaging centres worldwide, with 16 principal investigators, 24 core highly qualified personnel, 85 trainees, and over 80 top-tier affiliated faculty. In addition to PET/Cyclotron, the BIC features a strong portfolio of research dedicated imaging infrastructure including 1.5T, 3T and 7T (installation in 2017) human MRI systems, a 7T small-bore animal MRI, SPECT, as well as high-density EEG and MEG. Specific duties include; - Assist the researchers who use the PET Unit, and help them in the development, implementation and the successful completion of their PET studies. - Provide expertise to the PET Unit’s staff, supervising and advising the Unit’s Manager, Certified Technical Staff, and Biomedical Engineer, and graduate and summer trainees in quantitative PET imaging, kinetic models, data corrections (motion, scatter, normalization) and image reconstruction techniques. - Calibration, quality control, setup and basic troubleshooting of the platform instrumentation and software. - Provide informatics support to the Unit. - Work independently on basic research projects of his/her initiative. - Work with collaborative teams on the multidisciplinary aspects of the research projects and will analyze the data, write drafts of manuscripts, and contribute to the writing of grants. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Minimum a MSc in Medical Physics, Electrical or Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience (imaging), or equivalent. Experience with programming in Matlab and/or Python. Experience working on a research platform, especially the PET HRRT, will be an asset. Salary ($55,000CAD - $75,000CAD) will be commensurate to experience. OTHER QUALIFYING SKILLS & ABILITIES Strong expertise in PET human/animal imaging reconstruction/modeling is required. Team player, knowledgeable, dependable, quick learner, professional, and conscientious. Experience with grant writing and fellowship applications is an asset.
