I thought you were asking more about the process rather the actual sphere durface files.

These files are inside the MEG pipeline code distributed in connectomedb in

https://www.humanconnectome.org/documentation/HCP-pipelines/meg-pipeline.html

If you download from  "Pipeline Files" version v3.0 and unzip

you ll find the files in
megconnectome-3.0/template/
named
"Sphere.4k.L.surf.gii"
"Sphere.4k.R.surf.gii"

    Quick question regarding MEG data:

    Where can I find, or how can I construct, a spherical mapping
    (/.sphere.../) surface vertex file corresponding to the MEG
    surface files

    /XXXXXX/MEG/anatomy/XXXXXX.L.midthickness.4k_fs_LR.surf.gii/

    As far as I can tell, these seem to be different sizes to all
    other /.sphere.../ files in the /T1w/ and /MNINonLinear /folders.
