Tsz Wo Nicholas Sze commented on HDFS-8538:
-------------------------------------------

> ... they almost always want the available space policy. ...

This statement may not be true. E.g. a disk with 2T free space and a disk with
1T free space, the 2T disk should not be more preferable than the 1T disk since
both of them have plenty of space.

> ... but we've always gotten complaints about uneven disk usage from customers
> with differently sized disks, ...

You will get more complaints for performance degradation after the change.
BTW, they should set the policy themselves or run balancer.

> For datanodes with different sized disks, they almost always want the
> available space policy. Users with homogenous disks are unaffected.
> Since this code has baked for a while, let's change it to be the default.
