Thanks for the updates and rebase Bob!
It looks like the unit test is failing under valgrind because it doesn't have
the {code} google::protobuf::ShutdownProtobufLibrary(); {code} call at the end
of the tests. If fixing that gets a good CI run I'll +1. Everything else
looks solid.
