HADOOP-9902 introduced hadoop-functions.sh and upgraded almost all of the code
to use functions and bash-isms for faster execution. The above two scripts
just got enough work done so that they can function; new api is unset and these
are running backwards compatibility mode. This means they also lack things like
usage information, debug settings, etc, etc, etc. Ultimately, it means they
need complete rewrites like the rest of the scripts have already gotten.
Additionally, I believe these two are mostly undocumented.
