Eli Collins commented on HDFS-1863:
-----------------------------------
@Brahma are you running the DN with no dfs.data.dirs configured? When you say
you "pulled out all the directory volumes", what exactly do you mean by that?
Eg you removed the drives backing these volumes while the DN was still running?
> When all data directory volumes pulled out in DataNode, Its better to
> shutdown.

> Key: HDFS-1863
> URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDFS-1863
> Project: Hadoop HDFS
> Issue Type: Bug
> Components: data-node
> Affects Versions: 0.20.1
> Reporter: Brahma
> Priority: Minor
>
> When we pulled out all the data directory volumes in DataNode,
> it is not shuttingdown. Because of this NameNode is keep selecting this DN
> also for write.
> But datanode is saying 'No available volumes' and throwing exception.
> Instead of this, we can shutdown the DataNode.
