Plamen Jeliazkov commented on HDFS-14067:
-----------------------------------------
Thanks [~csun] and [~xkrogen], I understand better now.
Chao, I was going to say that the .000 patch only fixes client and does not
address the server-side check but it is sounding like this JIRA is tending
towards a "Won't Fix".
I leave it up to you guys for how to proceed here; if you end up posting
another patch I will review it / test it.
For the sake of testing as a whole though I will simply use `--forcemanual` for
now.
If we intend to support automatic failover then it seems we will need to
complicate things.
> Allow manual failover between standby and observer

> Currently if automatic failover is enabled in a HA environment, transition
> from standby to observer would be blocked:
> {code}
> [hdfs@*** hadoop-3.3.0-SNAPSHOT]$ bin/hdfs haadmin -transitionToObserver ha2
> Automatic failover is enabled for NameNode at ****
> Refusing to manually manage HA state, since it may cause
> a split-brain scenario or other incorrect state.
> If you are very sure you know what you are doing, please
> specify the --forcemanual flag.
> {code}
> We should allow manual transition between standby and observer in this case.
