We'd like to have this commit in branch-3.0 because of HDFS-14159. I saw that
it has been committed but soon reverted. [~chris.douglas], could you please
explain why it has been reverted? Does this break something?
Anyways, the cherry-pick is clean for me and the build succeeds. If a full
testsuite is also necessary we can file another jira for that.
