Quick status refresh as of August 9, 2026: I reran the fork-side GitHub
Build for the current head. The rerun completed with a failure in only the `Run
/ Test hdfs - slow (Java 17) ubuntu_24-trunk` shard, with
`TestObserverNode.testGetListingForDeletedDir` and
`TestObserverNode.testSimpleReadEmptyDirOrFile` both failing under
`java.lang.ClassCastException: class java.lang.Long cannot be cast to class
java.lang.Boolean`. That still looks outside this append generation-stamp
change, so I have not pushed any code change here.
