I also don't think this should be a blocker. As I last understood the proposal,
the proposed change here was just going to be in the configuration, and not
actually affect the behavior from an end-user perspective. Is that accurate?
It's obviously not possible to say for sure without a detailed proposal or a
patch, but as I understood the proposal at the time I think this could be done
in a backward-compatible way.
