Here is a new patch, which addresses Suresh's comments.
I ran NNThroughput benchmark creating 500.000 files with 200 threads. I don't 
see any difference in performance with and without the patch. It fluctuates 
within 1-3% for both variants. So if there is any difference it is within the 
measurement precision range.
