Yongjun Zhang commented on HDFS-5939:
-------------------------------------
HI [~wheat9],
I looked closer at HDFS-5891, where you indicated
"This jira proposes that the NN should choose the DN based on the information
of the data node manager."
The issue I reported here is that when there is no datanode running, even the
data node manager will fail to find data node, and the system issue the not
very helpful message I put in the jira report.
If it's ok with you, would you please help reviewing my patch here? thanks a
lot.

> When trying to access hdfs via webhdfs, and when datanode is dead, user will
> see an exception below without any clue that it's caused by dead datanode:
> $ curl -i -X PUT
> ".../webhdfs/v1/t1?op=CREATE&user.name=<userName>&overwrite=false"
> ...
> {"RemoteException":{"exception":"IllegalArgumentException","javaClassName":"java.lang.IllegalArgumentException","message":"n
> must be positive"}}
> Need to fix the report to give user hint about dead datanode.
