Hi All,
The internationalization effort for OpenOffice is being managed at Sun's
Hamburg office by Dieter Loeschky's group. This effort includes all of the
basic support for bidi that you can see in OO 643.

The Hebrew localization for OO is being handled by Sun Israel with
contributions from the general public (such as the subscribers to this
list) and various public bodies. The localization effort includes
translating the UI and help texts, providing locale definitions, adding
fonts and third part tools and of course, doing lots and lots of testing
and bug reporting.

The same organizational split between internationalization and
localization responsibilities exists for all the OO localizations, not
just for Hebrew.

Since there are then two parallel efforts by two separate groups going on,
we will need two separate bug tracking mechanisms. At the suggestion of
Shoshana Forbes I have submitted a request to OpenOffice.Org (issuezilla
8509) to open a new issuezilla component called "bidi". The idea is to use
this component as an easy way of reporting and finding bidi
internationalization bugs through issuezilla on OpenOffice.org. We will
then use a separate bugzilla database for reporting bugs in the
Hebrew localization and these bugs will be fixed locally by the members of
this list, Sun or other interested parties. We will probably use bugzilla
for the localization bug tracking. Let me know if you have other
suggestions for bug tracking tools (must be open source).

The openoffice.org.il web site is currently redirected to openoffice.org.
I suggest that we replace this with a Hebrew site with information that is
of interest to local users, developers and testers. Please let me knwo if
you are interesting in contributing.
Regards,

 - yba
