Hi Jonathan, The Official StarOffice 6.1 beta program will be based on source code that supports bidi functionality. The source code base is roughly equivalent to OpenOffice developer version 644, which has not yet been released. This means it is an "enabled version", i.e. English UI and requires you to manually set some options before you can use it for Hebrew.
Sun will release the beta program StarOffice 6.1 in localized versions for what Sun calls the "big ten" languages only. This language set does *not* include Hebrew, Arabic or Russian, which are in a language set referred to internally as the "six additional languages". During the February-March time frame Sun will produce two or three alpha versions of OpenOffice with Hebrew localization, i.e bidi support "out of the box". These versions will be limited in their distribution to Sun internal, font vendors who need to test their fonts with StarOffice/OpenOffice, and the participants in the Ministry of Finance Tehila forum on Hebrew localization. Some time during April 2003 Sun will release a beta version of Hebrew localized OpenOffice for public comment. The schedule for subsequent releases is not finalized as of this writing.
