Hi Yaniv,

OOo does have XML files which contain settings (in the share/registry directory), but I would recommend changing settings from the "Tools" menu instead of manually editing the XML files.

First, there is not just one ini file, but are numerous XML text files which contain various OOo settings, so you have to know which file and which setting you want, and which choices are legal. If you make a mistake here, you won't get the results you want, and OOo might even crash.

Second, there is one set of files which contains defaults for all users, and there is another set for each user which contains overrides for the defaults. So you may have to check both sets of files to get the desired results.

Third, the user settings are kept in a cache, so even if you change the files the right way, you won't see the results if OOo is still using the cached data.

If you're still interested, you can check out
http://util.openoffice.org/common/configuration/oor-document-format.html
to learn how the registry works.

So unless you know your way around the OOo registry pretty well, I wouldn't edit the XML files. Most anything you need you can set in the Tools/Options window.

I would find it very useful if I could edit the text file that contains all the options from OO.o's options menu (if one exists), so it could just paste it as needed in any OO.o. installation. Now, I couldn't find that file, so I ask again if anyone knows how and where OO.o stores the options and configurations?

I noticed that while you were talking about OO.o settings you
menstioned LC_LANG, LC_ALL etc.. I gathered that these are the names
of the Languages settings from the Options menu
as they are in the OO.o configuration files.

Actually, these are the names of locale-settings environment variables,
which are not specific to OpenOffice. You can see yours by typing the
local command in a terminal window.

I wondered if anyone could point me to these files on Linux (Ubuntu),
that would be a great help for me.

What are trying to do? I'm not clear to which files you want to access
exactly.
