Of course, you only need the generic server when you want to multiplex information from multiple sources/drivers (e.g. RTC, NTP, etc.) At this point, when there's just the RTC driver, we don't need it / we can optimize it away / and the application could directly connect to the hw-specific driver/server that would implement a standard interface.
