Hi folks,

hope you are all doing well!

Looking through the mailing list I can see the last meeting minutes are from
March(!). Not sure why that is. I missed organizing the last couple of
hangouts, because I always remembred just too late that it is already second
Thursday of the month - sorry about that.

This all might lead to the impression that nothing is happening. That's
certainly not the case. So I wrote up a summary of my activity since March.
Here it is:

* Alt-key menu activation
* Scrollbar

* Custom button decorations (e.g. scrollbar arrows, X for closing the
window)

* Memory bugs fixed in libui

* File list control

* Navigator ported to file list control and added scrollbars

* Fixed networking, keyboard and audio in VirtualBox

So now, among others, HelenOS works great in VirtualBox both with the right
network device configuration and with either SB or HD Audio.

While working on VirtualBox I've found out that HD Audio driver does not
report/set rates/formats and that lead to a deep dive into our audio stack,
for details please see this blog post:

architecture.html

And admittedly over the summer holidays I've been working mostly on Syc,
rather than HelenOS, but fear not it is about time for a context switch ^_^.
Even this project looks like a tangent to HelenOS (and it most certainly
is), it's much more related to HelenOS than you might think. I'm planning to
write a little bit about that (hopefully) soon. Stay tuned.

As for short my short-term plans: Even tough Navigator needs quite a bit of
work to become a real file manager (as opposed to just browser), as the next
step I plan to work on a task bar. That will be certainly an interesting and
non-trivial project. For example, to show a list of open windows (and
possibly allow switching between them), we need to add some kind of 'window
management' interface to Display server.

Talk to you again soon!

Cheers,

Jiri
