AFAIK nobody is working on this, so if you'd like to give it a try, go
ahead.
And while I would certainly not like to discourage you, this looks like
something way more complicated than what I would expect a first-time
contributor to be able to accomplish.
Actually I'm not sure exactly how much work this will be, because I haven't
given though to the design yet.
So what needs to be done here:
- you need to have an understanding of the overall network stack design
- you need to come up with a design for how the capture mechanism will work
(i.e. where the capturing will occur, how it will transport/store/write the
data)
- implement in compliance with all our coding style and best practices as
well as advice from the team
Of course if you'd like just to experiment and play around, you can do it
anyway you like, just it might not be integrated to our codebase, perhaps it
would be just used as an inspiration. - Even that can be fun, note that, and
most first time contributors have a hard time understanding that, for a new
contributor getting from zero to a working prototype is usually much easier
than getting from a working prototype to something that can be integrated to
the codebase.
