Well, I personally don't like putting too much things in gitignore, it hides stray files. I strongly recommend that you build out-of-tree. That is to say ./bootstrap mkdir _build cd _build ../configure make I don't plan to add the missing bits in the gitignores. IMHO they already contain too much stuff.
