The OP was polite and articulate, and I think it's OK to question things like these. I personally think I mostly understand cfengine's model, but still I would've expected the variable to be evaluated 3 times at the maximum (for the 3 passes cfengine makes to achieve convergence). I would also like to understand why it is being evaluated so many times. Cfengine is a powerful and amazingly useful tool, but as a newbie it _can_ be very hard to wrap your head around, particularly if all your programming experience has been with imperative languages. I would very much like to see the cfengine community be a friendly one where all sorts of questions and comments are welcome (think of comp.text.tex vs comp.lang.perl, for those old enough to remember. In one the ambient is friendly and open, in the other, people will bite your head off for asking any question that is even remotely answered in the documentation, or for providing criticism of any kind). A lot of the tone for a community comes from its leaders and top users. Just my $.02, as they say. _______________________________________________ Help-cfengine mailing list Help-cfengine@cfengine.org https://cfengine.org/mailman/listinfo/help-cfengine
