Yes, but I have to admit that one of the most frustating things that I have to deal with are programs that don't work, and for which there are no workarounds. I *do* realize that you and everyone else working cfengine full-time is trying really hard to debug this problem; I don't mean to slight or diminish that at all. >Allowing people to choose the command will just lead to confusion. >Unless a specific set of columns are available, the select_process >functionality will not work as advertised. Isn't that what unix is all about--having enough rope? :) I'm *not* reccommending that everyone go make up their own ps strings on a whim, and expect it to work. Instead, this would be something that a sufficiently motivated and clueful admin could change as a last resort (of sorts). On one hand, I know that allowing this sort of customization is a potential problem. On the other hand, I have a strong sense of "make it work (properly)." > The only problem left, is solaris' buggy zone >implementation. The -z flag does not work as advertised. Best of luck getting Sun^H^H^HOracle to fix it too. :-( >There are no useful, portable, standard libraries for process >management. Really, we've checked. I completely believe you, and you have my sympathies. The wonderful thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from. -- Jesse Becker NHGRI Linux support (Digicon Contractor) _______________________________________________ Help-cfengine mailing list Help-cfengine@cfengine.org https://cfengine.org/mailman/listinfo/help-cfengine
