Yeah if implemented, it shouldn't be enabled by default, but there are 
lots of cases where tidy is used to clean up unnecessary config files; 
it would be fantastic if those targeted deletions could be flagged to 
use the repository so that a timestamped backup copy of the deleted 
files are saved before the file(s) are deleted.

As you mentioned, a copy followed by tidy would achieve the same thing, 
and I believe in cf3 you could add something to the standard library 
that combines the two, rather than implementing a whole new bit of 
functionality.  The downside to that would be the filename of the backup 
file -- how do you write the promise so that it is able to keep multiple 
backups over time, the way the cf2 repository does?
