Thanks, but I gave up on it and did two things: hardcode the few files I needed (which is very inflexible as they might change behind my back whenever our developers feel like it and you have no safety net), and write a bug report: https://cfengine.com/bugtracker/view.php?id=888 I also want to do as much as possible inside cfengine, but now and then I do take shortcuts with shellscripts. I'm also getting the feeling that there are too many arbitrary limitations in cfengine, which sometimes makes it even harder to sell it internally to my colleagues. I should create a list of those probably and invite people to discuss.
