Subject: Trouble with Meta promises

I'm seeing these errors when trying the new meta promises.
Unable to converge perms_meta.purpose value (possibly empty or infinite
regression)
It is my understanding that meta is simply a variable. Nothing complicated.
meta:
"purpose" string => "This is my purpose";
Why the odd message?
