Hi,
I think you are looking at it from the wrong angle. The client checks
its own file contents, and then decides what to do. This could be to add
it to a class so that another action can be performed, or as a direct
action, with editfiles, or a combination of both.
I found it took a while to get my head around cfengine, as you never
really know the state the client is in before you start. In fact, the
best way I found of understanding what I needed to do was to define the
end state and work backwards, rather than the other way around.
Regards,
Marco

Hello all,
Is there a way to query clients from a cfengine server? What I would
like to be able to do, is to query clients to know about specific
configurations of their systems. For example, before I take any
actions on a client, I might like to know the content of a file before
trying to do modification to it.
I feel lile shooting in the dark when using cfengine without knowing
the exact state of a system.
Thanks,
Bern
