Hi All, I have a small problem. My firewall seems to stop me printing from emacs. If I turn off the firewall I can print just fine from emacs. With firewall on or off I can print from all other applications. I am printing to a wireless print server, I don't think that should make any difference though. I do not like to turn off the firewall for obvious reasons, even just for a few seconds.
It is a Symantec Personal Firewall that comes included with Norton Internet Security Professional 2004. OS is Windows XP with all upgrades & patches allied. I cannot find a text file that shows which programs are being blocked in what ways by the firewall. The emacs version is: GNU Emacs 21.2.1 (i386-msvc-nt5.1.2600) of 2002-03-19 on buffy Looking at the menus in the firewall I can see that the following are blocked - do you think it might be any of them: C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\BackWeb-8876480.exe C:\Program Files\Support.com\client\bin\tgcmd.exe C:\Program Files\Support.com\client\bin\tgfix.exe There are also many from under C:\Windows (there's no easy way I know to get a list of them) that the firewall has configured "Automatic." Do you think symantec may find the manner in which emacs uses one of these is suspicious and block it when emacs uses it? There are too many for me to test one at a time by telling Symantec Firewall to "permit all." Does anybody know which programs under C:\windows emacs will use to print? Bash.exe, uname.exe, & emacs.exe have permit all. This is the only print related stuff in my .emacs file: (setq printer-name "//AVALON/CAXTON" ) ; network printer port=SC04CA38_P1 (setq ps-printer-name "//AVALON/CAXTON") ; Postscript network printer Any help appreciated.
