I thought this happens universally.
First, the versions are:
* Windows 8.1 64bit
* GNU Emacs 24.3.1 (i386-mingw-nt6.2.9200)
How to replicate:
1. Vertical windows taskbar - in my case it is on the right side of the
screen
2. Open Emacs
3. Maximize it by either double clicking on the title bar or clicking the
maximize button of the emacs window.
But then, I found the culprit. I have the following in my ``.emacs``:

And when I take this out, maximization works as expected. How should I
change this so I can have default font set without?
