I think I found the problem (well, at least this was a bug) in the loop
for creating the help string.
it's just a simple patch I attach (if there are problems, I can provide
a .tar.gz, it's not in the cvs yet).

so I guess I could be ready for the release, since this seemed to be the
last pending issue;
probably there's also the short/int issue
